Sailing

Our professional sailing staff provides instruction in keelboat sailing using the Club’s own Alerion 28 Perseverance, and in small-boat sailing in Sunfish and Lasers. The Devon Junior Yacht program provides instruction in Optimists and Club 420s, and campers compete in numerous PGJSA regattas on the East End and in Connecticut.

Weekly one-design racing occurs from June through September with one of the largest fleets of Alerion 28s on the east coast as well as Sunfish and PHRF racing.

OPEN REGATTAS

The Club welcomes youth and adult sailors to enjoy the steady breezes and safe sailing conditions of Gardiner’s Bay with several open events each year. The annual Peconic Gardiner’s Junior Sailing Association (PGJSA) regatta draws hundreds of youth sailors from all over Suffolk County and the tentative date for this year is August 5th, 2020. For more than 50 years the Club has hosted sailors from the North and South Forks to compete in the 35-mile Lawrence E. Clarke ‘Round Gardiner’s Island race.  For 2020 the race is scheduled for August 22nd.
